Today is Back to School Sunday! We appreciate the enthusiasm of the staff ( those new and those returning) in all the preparations made over the summer to ensure a good start. More goes into being ready than most would imagine. We’ve been busy getting all the paperwork, staff needs, lesson plans and classroom maintenance done, and I believe, with the Lord’s blessing, we will have a very good year. We are thankful for the offering that came in for the school last week and I am asking our church family to again give extra this week to help us with all the expenses. I know you agree, our kids are worth it!

Next Sunday is designated “Back to School Sunday.” One ministry of our church is our Christian day school. It is well over forty years old. From the beginning, it has been a ministry of faith. As a church, we know that if our Christian values are going to be passed on to our children we must place them in a Christ honoring environment and that is certainly not in the government schools. Today, to keep this Christian school ministry going I must keep asking our church family to give a little extra. I pray you will once again give a little more as we start another school year.

We are having a good summer here at Landmark. Yes, many are gone for the summer and some are on shorter vacations, but there are enough left to keep up with our summer activities. Our teen camp will start Monday week and we are looking for a great turnout. I do want to encourage everyone to give a little extra so that many teens can go that can’t pay their own way. Thankfully, many of you do so, and I believe we will understand what a great investment we made when we see the Lord Jesus. Amen

Today, is promotion Sunday in our Sunday school. While it won’t effect us more mature ones, it is a big deal to the kids. No 4th grader wants to stay any longer with the little kids now that he is a big fifth grader. That’s the attitude until a certain age when much money is spent to try to look younger. This reveals in every heart a desire to live on forever, yet there comes a time in this earthy life when suffering can make living unbearable. Thankfully, the Lord Jesus has made it possible to not only have eternal life, but even now to make life more abundant.

By today we will be seeing and hearing that the last of those going north may be leaving. We will miss them greatly along with those who take extended summer vacations. This means we who remain, holding the fort, are more important than ever. We do joke about the thin summer crowd, but we still have many summer visitors and the full work of the ministry continues faithfully, as always. The Scripture tells us to be instant is season and out of season. I think instant means to be quick to do what is needed, and certainly the need in this late hour is very great. Only heaven will finally reveal the reward for serving the Lord Jesus in His cause for reaching souls. Amen

It’s my time of the year to bring out my “crying towel” as so many are heading back up north. In all seriousness we will miss so many that are with us faithfully in the winter time. I am praying for each one to stay healthy and return as soon as possible. I am also asking all of our membership to stay as faithful as possible this summer. The ministry here at Landmark remains just as busy in the summer time, and the need is always great. Please be praying for the summer’s activities such as graduation times and summer camps. The Scripture says to be “instant in season and out of season.” Truly the Lord’s work is never seasonal but important all the time. Amen

I am writing this on Wednesday morning and I have received news that our college soul winning is off to a good start. They left early Monday morning for the trip to Waycross, Georgia at the Countryside Baptist Church. Dr. Pitts said on the phone that the weather had cleared and they had forty-four decisions for Christ on the first day. Please keep praying for them as we are hoping to reach the goal of 100 being saved during the three day effort. The truth is, souls can still be saved in these last days before Christ returns; the problem is, not enough of God’s people speak up with the gospel as in the old days. let’s keep on being a church that gets out the good news that Jesus still saves. Amen

During this year’s radio Restorathon, Gospel 90.3 will be asking you,”Are You Radio-Active?”. We encourage you to become active in this year’s Restorathon. Restorathon will be held February 23rd – 25th. Restorathon is our radio station’s equivalent to a “share-a-thon” or pledge drive. It is the most important event of the year for Gospel 90.3 FM and Gospel903.com. In just three days, the station will endeavor to restore the annual budget so that they may continue to broadcast the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ locally and around the world. Please tune in with your prayers and pledges for Restorathon 2011. If you don’t know anything about our church’s radio station, then why not stop by our radio station’s website; while there you can learn more about Restorathon 2011. It has been an amazing forty years! Today it is rare to find a pastor who has faithfully served in one pastorate for this long. This January the 30th, beginning at 10:00 AM, Landmark Baptist Church is pleased to celebrate the completion of Dr. Mickey Carter’s 40th year of ministry here in Haines City. Dr Carter has been faithfully preaching the pure Word of God at Landmark Baptist Church since December of 1970. You can find more information on Dr. Carter’s history here. Or you can download a copy of the booklet “Dr Carter’s Call to Landmark“.
We would like to ask all of our members and friends to join us as we celebrate this great occasion. We will be holding a special Anniversary Sunday service with mystery hand-shakers, mystery parking, and a huge party out on the football field. We hope to see you here as we celebrate the past forty years, and look forward to what God has in store for the future.
